Accessible for All Visitors

The main door currently in use as HDC’s front door opens into our welcome room, where street shoes and coats can be neatly stored while you’re in class. This door has one small step up in the entryway from the sidewalk. Visitors who need barrier-free access can ask HDC’s teachers or staff members to open the adjacent door, which enters directly into the dance studio space and features a flat, no-step entryway from the sidewalk.

The welcome room contains a minifridge. HDC teachers and staff are glad to help you store any medications, breastmilk, or other items that need to be refrigerated while you’re in class or participating in an event.

There are two single occupancy, gender neutral restrooms in the space. Both are equipped with small stepstools to assist young children who may be visiting the studio. Both are equipped with free pads and tampons, available to any member of our community.

One restroom is large enough to change clothes comfortably inside. This larger restroom is also ADA-accessible.

HDC teachers and staff are glad to help accommodate you in the way that supports your body best. Please ask us about any accommodations you may need.

Walkable from JMU and Downtown Locations

The studio is a popular visiting and rental choice for James Madison University groups because it’s:

  • Just a 15-minute walk from the Student Success Center, or a short bike ride away.

  • Easily accessible by bus.

  • Steps away from downtown Harrisonburg restaurants and coffee shops; great for pre- or post-event gatherings!
