Booking and Payment

Email rentals@hburgdancecoop.org to begin a conversation with us. When reaching out, it’s helpful for us to know when you’d like to book, if your booking is a one-time or recurring event, if the event is private or open to the public, how many people you expect to attend, and if you plan to charge your students or attendees a fee to participate.

At the Harrisonburg Dance Cooperative, we have a commitment to making arts and movement as accessible tothe Harrisonburg-Rockingham community as possible. Renters who offer qualifying classes and events that are open to the public at affordable ($10 or under) or sliding scale rates may receive a discounted rental rate.

We occasionally donate the rental of our space to values-aligned organizations and nonprofits. Please reach out to us to share more about your project and ask us about this.

Renters may pay online through our payment platform, WellnessLiving, or in cash. Please let us know when you reach out about your booking what your preference is.

Bookings are charged at an hourly rate.
Rental Requirements and Logistics

Please inform us of any changes to your schedule as soon as possible.

If you already carry liability insurance for your own business or group, we’d love to review a copy of it before confirming your booking. If you do not carry liability insurance, we can discuss options to cover you under HDC’s, as long as your participants sign one of HDC’s waivers.

We try our best to respond to rental requests in a timely manner.
Events

Our current fire code capacity is 49.

The studio is flexible and multi-purpose; the space adapts seamlessly for whatever you have in mind! Use the studio for:
Dance, music, and theater rehearsal
Acting classes, audition tapings, or table reads
Yoga, pilates, meditation, or personal training
Business meetings, retreats, and workshops
Photography and videography
Kids’ parties, dance parties, and intimate gatherings

Food and beverages are allowed for events.
No food on the Marley dance floor without advanced permission.
Please clean up any spills immediately. Brooms, mops, and cleaning equipment can be found in the utility closet.
Alcohol is not permitted in the space.

For the most part, yes. No outdoor or street shoes are permitted in the studio to prevent damage to our professional sprung Marley flooring. Advanced permission and an additional cleaning fee is required for guests to wear outdoor shoes during your event. Please leave all street shoes in the cubbies to your left when you enter the welcome room.
Allowed: bare feet; regular socks; dance socks; dance shoes (such as ballet slippers or flat jazz shoes); clean, indoor-only sneakers.
Heeled dance shoes (e.g. for Latin, ballroom, or character dance) may be permitted for events if they are clean and non-marking.
Please be mindful not to wear recently-applied lotion on bare feet on the Marley flooring. If you will be using the space for dance or movement, please note that this applies to any other body parts that will be making frequent contact with the floor.

Your rental fee includes:

Professional, joint-friendly dance flooring
High ceilings and natural light
Bluetooth/AUX sound system
Heating & air conditioning
Access to restrooms and comfortable waiting area
Wi-Fi connection
Cleaning supplies for light reset after use
Up to 40 folding chairs and a limited number of folding tables are available upon request. Professional stage lighting equipment is available at additional cost, with staffing and programming options available.

Yes, as long as it follows all of our other policies, can be put up and taken down easily by you, and will not cause any damage or permanent alterations to our space. Please notify us of any equipment or furniture you will be bringing with you as soon as possible.
If you need additional time for setting up and breaking down equipment, consider booking an extra half-hour on either end of your event. A member of HDC’s team can be on-hand to assist you for an additional fee, pending staff availability. There are two 15-minute-limit free public parallel parking spaces on the side of N. Main St., directly in front of the White Box Studio, that you may use for loading and unloading as available.
