Modern technique masterclass w/ Darla Stanley

This class will progress from floor “swimming” sequences to larger dynamic explorations through space. We will give attention to the initiation of movement as we follow its course through the body. Emphasis is placed on softening the joints, moving from the bones, and accessing multi-directional energy. See Darla's bio here.

"Fall For Dance" November First Friday Performance
Join us for our first performance in our new studio in downtown Harrisonburg!
There will be several pieces in each show showcasing different choreographers and dancers work.
There will be 4 opportunities to see the performance:
Friday November 3; 6pm (doors open at 5:30) and 7:30pm (doors open at 7)
Saturday November 4; 6pm (doors open at 5:30) and 7:30pm(doors open at 7).
Tickets will be sold at the door on a first come first serve basis. Please arrive on the early side for a greater chance of getting a seat. There will be concessions for sale: wine, juice boxes, and light snacks, please bring cash for these purchases!

Come out to the studio for a night of the "beholding love and loss" series; Moving Through Grief: A Discussion on Dance in Grief and Healing.

In this 2 day (FREE) workshop participants will begin the process of creating outdoor, site-specific dances. In collaboration with partners, we will look at the call to create at this moment in time, exploring strategies for saying what we want to say through choreography. Structured improvisation will lead to shaping choreographic impulses.

JMU's School of Theatre and Dance will present DanceShare on October 12th. This event will celebrate local dance talent in a rousing performance featuring dancers drawn from the Harrisonburg Dance Cooperative, Elkton Recreation Dance Program, Harrisonburg High School Dance Program, the JMU Dance Program, and the Shenandoah Contemporary Dance Company.

First Friday event at Court House grounds on Friday, July 5th. HDC will have a ten-minute performance at 6:10 pm. There will also be mini lessons, performances, and giveaways from other dance groups. Come meet us, and let us meet you! Come to learn how dance can be fun, rewarding, and connecting!
BEER AND BALLET, JANUARY 15TH AT 6:30PM, 2019

“Beer and Ballet” will be hosted by Pale Fire Brewing. Audience members are invited to have a beer while taking in a brief ballet performance as part of HDC’s 4th birthday celebration. One pint is included in the ticket price. The ticket price is $10. We accept cash and check. If you want to pay by credit card, there will be a processing fee of $2.00 added to credit card transactions.
COFFEE AND CONTEMPORARY, NOVEMBER 2ND AT 7PM, 2018

Coffee and Contemporary will be hosted by Black Sheep Coffee on November 2, 2018. Doors will open at 7:00pm for check-in and to indulge in coffee or tea. The show will plan to start at 7:15pm.
Participants will enjoy a live dance performance and a cup of tea or coffee, all included in the show ticket price. Advance ticket is $8, door price is $10.

Community Dance Class and Performance

HDC will serve as performing artists' at the downtown Harrisonburg Farmer’s Market. Enjoy sneak peeks of our performance repertoire and take part in movement classes for all! Stop by our table for information, and bring friends to learn some new dance moves!
Moving Sculptures, September 7th at 6PM, 7 pm and 8pm, 2018

HDC is pleased to partner with Spitzer Art Gallery in presenting "Moving Sculptures." Mark your calendar for this First Friday event at 6:00pm, 7:00pm & 8:00pm on September 7th. Dancers will perform a series of solos and duets on a 4x4 platform in the charming Spitzer Art Gallery. All ages are encouraged to come! Suggested donation: $ 5.
Shall We Dance- Fundraising Gala, April 27th at 7pm, 2018

Join us for a delightful evening of delicacies, drinks, and dancing! Bid on wonderful silent auction items while enjoying food from A Bowl of Good and beer from Pale Fire Brewing (both included in the ticket price.) HDC will present a small performance, then dance the night away with us to music played by special guest DJ Divix from NYC. All proceeds will benefit the Harrisonburg Dance Cooperative mission of bringing dance to all! Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door.
